Weekly Synopses! #3

Posted by QCKNIGHT Link to this post

Good Evening Ladies and Gents,

As you already know, tomorrow is school (yahoo!!!), and we would like to push for another synopsis in order to maintain your interest in this wonderful opportunity.  Without further ado, let’s all give a warm welcome to one of the IT twins!  (The ones who made this website possible)

Jonathan Cifuentes

He is a Queens College graduate who majored in Computer Science.  He is always exposed to IT wherever he goes, as for his future?  You guessed it, it will be related to Tech.  As of now, he is managing JK Design, and of course, ALPFA, and other businesses as well.

QC: Hello Jon!  First, we would like to thank you and your brother’s dedications and efforts on this new and improved website.  It is a great asset to ALPFA as a whole (and a great way to give the Director of IT (aka me) more work to do…), and we will ensure to use this website at its’ full capacity.  At any event, tell us about your experience with the ALPFA National Convention.

Jon: Well as far back as I can recall, my first convention was in 2004 at Chicago. It was an experience that would change my life forever not just in the countless things i got to experience first-hand as an up and coming ALPFA member. I was able to see the work of many state chapters culminate into one event like the ALPFA convention. I’ve always said that ALPFA has helped kick-start my career, giving me challenges and lessons along the way. But when you enter those doors, schmooze with executives, and become immered in a world of resources right at your fingertips, you can’t help but to feel that you truly have the opportunity to make a difference in your life and quite possibly someone else’s as well. Some people come to network, to find a job, to do both, to do more-

QC: (definitely planning to do more…)

Jon: Yet in the end, I can truly say that in a span of just 4 days, anyone who attends will leave with a power and enthusiasm to get the job done..I call it, ALPFA’s reboot…because we all leave accomplished, renewed, and empowered. So everybody wins in some way or form.

QC: A win-win scenario, an interesting way to interpret this opportunity.  Any suggestions and/or recommendations for students who are attending for their first time?

Jon: For students who are attending for their first time…where should I begin? First, bring plenty of resumes and business cards…you have no idea how cramped and expensive hotel business centers can get.

QC: (have to turn the printing switch on, like the way Ben Bernanke turn the printing switch on for money)

Jon: Next, learn the art of the snappy bio (see here: http://lifehacker.com/5327172/write-a-snappy-bio-line-for-yourself). When you’re at a career fair, recruiters will be talking to a lot of people so before exchanging smalltalk, it’s important to make your conversation ice breaker short and sweet. Once you get their attention, then you can reel them in with your general questions.

QC: (the art of the snappy bio…we have to master this!)

Jon: Next, vibrate your phone…remember that when pitching yourself to a recruiter, nothing kills a good vibe like a looped ring tone of Lady GaGa.

QC: (how did he know…)

Jon: Next, when bringing gadgets, extra batteries help…you never know.

QC: (batteries…AA, AAA, AAAA?, what else…)

Jon: And finally, be yourself, exercise positivity, and have fun! The convention’s well-known for it’s after-parties :)

QC: (time to head for the gym)  “Well-known for it’s after-parties,” not only do we work hard, we party hard as well.  Thank you for your creative insight, it seems like we lost track of time with your wonderful instructions; I am positive we will refer to this guide wherever we may go…(need to introduce myself to my next door strangers, snappy bio!)

***Stay tuned next week for our next candidate, thank you for reading!***
